The K. Chandrashekar Rao led Telangana Government is planning to come up with wealth out of waste plants in the Telugu State.
According to sources, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Government is upgrading Hyderabad’s capacity of the Waste to Energy (WTE) plants. In addition to the existing plants, the State Government is aiming to built five more WTE plants in Telangana.
With the upgrade, the State would be able to increase its WTE capacity from 24 MW to 101 MW.
At present, the 24 MW capacity WTE plant at Jawahar Nagar is fully operational and another five plants would add the WTE capacity of 77 MW, taking the overall tally to 101 MW.
The five plants that are set to create a sustainable future for Hyderabad and its vicinity are coming up at Jawahar Nagar (24 MW,) Dundigal (15 MW) Pyaranagar, Medak district (15MW), Yacharam (12 MW) and Bibinagar (11 MW.)
Once the plants are operational, they would be sufficient to recycle the waste generated in Hyderabad and the Urban Local Bodies where they are being set up for the next 30 years. Furthermore, confirming the plans, an official from the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Department said, “At present, 7,000 to 7,500 tonnes of waste is collected every day from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits and this will be utilized for power generation.” With the new five plants that are under construction, the waste collection would increase by 5,100 tonnes every day.
The five additional waste to energy plants would be operational by 2024.
