Union Minister Nithyananda Roy Clarifies On Special Status To AP

The Union Minister of Home Affairs Nithyananda Rao, on the 23rd of March, clairified regarding the special status to Andhra Pradesh.

During the ongoing Parliament Budget session, Mr. Nithyananda Roy said the Central Government said, under the rules of the 14th Finance Commission, special status could not be given to Andhra Pradesh.  The Minister also asked the two Telugu states, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, to resolve their issues pertaining to water and river under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act 2014.

The Union Minister said that many aspects of the Reorganisation Act were in force while he revealed that some other guarantees were in various stages. He said the construction of projects and educational institutions would take a long time.

We are reviewing with various departments over the implementation of the guarantees. “There were 24 review meetings held with officials from both states,” he said.

The statement of Mr. Roy came after a Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Member of Parliament (MP) Rammohan Naidu, urged the Central Government to clarify their stand on the Special Status to A.P.  He said the answers given by the Union Government in written is not satisfactory and he demands a clarity on the developments to the extent of special status.

Meanwhile, a Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) MP Mithun Reddy also asked the Centre to give special status to Andhra Pradesh irrespective of the special packages.   Seven years after the state seceded, many aspects of the Reorganisation act have not been fulfilled.  He demanded that the Centre to state the reason for this.

Since the bifurcation, Andhra Pradesh is trying to acquire Special Status under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act 2014.
