In Andhra Pradesh, the opposition parties are likely to form an alliance to contest State elections against the ruling Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP.)

Notably, Mr. Pawan Kalyan led JanaSena Party and Mr. Nara Chandrababu Naidu led the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) held several meetings and are expected to have discussed an alliance.  Besides the TDP, the JanaSena is also said to be planning a trilateral alliance with the joining of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) in Andhra Pradesh.

The talks of the JanaSena alliance with the opposition started after the launch of the Varahi Vijaya Yatra, on the 14th of June.  Mr. Pawan Kalyan started the first phase of the Varahi Vijaya Yatra, which would cover 11 segments of the East Godavari district, for 10 days.  During these days, Mr. Pawan Kalyan would hold public meetings in Kakinada, Mummidivaram, Amalapuram, Malkipuram and Narsapuram regions.  The yatra would conclude on the 24th of June.  The significance of the organized Varahi Vijaya Yatra is to listen to the public at the ground level and highlight the failures of the YSRCP Government.

Meanwhile, speaking about the alliance rumors, the Power Star, actor turned politician, Mr. Pawan Kalyan was recently seen talking about the TDP and the BJP.  If sources are to be believed, Mr. Pawan Kalyan has attended several events with Mr. Nara Chandrababu Naidu, the TDP President, on record.  Recently in April, Mr. Pawan Kalyan held hours long meetings with Mr. Nara Chandrababu, at his residence.

Moreover, on several occasions, Mr. Pawan Kalyan said he would  ensure anti incumbency votes are not split.  In addition, Mr. Pawan Kalyan, the national BJP leader Mr. Amit Shah and Mr. Nara Chandrababu Naidu held a meeting in Delhi, hinting towards a possible alliance.

Furthermore, giving more clarity, Mr. K. Pattabhi, the spokesperson of the TDP said, “We don’t think exerting pressure on us is the agenda of the yatra.  Pawan Kalyan has always been clear from the beginning about a YSRCP-mukt Andhra Pradesh.  In fact, he was quite accommodating during the informal alliance talks.  Moreover, he has said publicly that the JSP’s strength is limited and cautioned his fans and supporters to understand the ground reality and make practical demands.”

However, there is no official announcement regarding the alliance between the TDP, the BJP and the JanaSena Party.  Notably, the JanaSena Party is already in an alliance with the BJP in Andhra Pradesh.  However, the alliance and seat sharing strategies for the 2024 Andhra Pradesh elections are still unclear.
