In the Gannavaram region of Andhra Pradesh, tension prevailed after a clash broke out between the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) cadres.
On the 20th of February, Monday evening, clashes broke out after the TDP office was attacked in Gannavaram. On the afternoon of Monday, a few unidentified miscreants attacked the TDP Office in the region and damaged furniture in the office.
Soon the issue escalated into a major fight and the TDP leader accused Mr. Vallabhaneni Vamsi, leader of the YSRCP of inciting riots in the constituency. In addition, Vallabhaneni Vamsi is questioning what outsiders are doing in the constituency who caused the riots. In the riots and stone pelting incident, Gannavaram Circle Inspector P. Kanaka Rao also sustained serious injuries. Many stone pelting incidents were reported in the region, following which Special Branch Police reached the spot and started collecting pieces of evidence.
In addition, the Gannavaram Police imposed Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC,) restricting any political or social gathering of people in the region.
On the other hand, the Telugu Desam Party has called for ‘Chalo Gannavaram program’ to protest against the destruction of the TDP Office. Against this backdrop, the Local Police arrested TDP Spokesperson Kommareddy Pattabiram and other TDP leaders. Many senior leaders of the TDP were also put under house arrest to restrict them from conducting ‘Chalo Gannavaram’ protest in Andhra Pradesh.
