Narayana Swamy, the Excise Minister of Andhra Pradesh, on the 28th of September, addressed the media and spoke about the new liquor policy.
Mr. Swamy said the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government will implement the new liquor policy from the 1st of October in Andhra Pradesh.
Mr. Swamy said the State Government will implement the policy in a phased manner to make AP an alcohol free State.
As of now, the YSRCP Government permitted approximately 450 shops to operate in the State.
The State Government decided to open 3,500 shops under its supervision. The shops will be inaugurated on the 1st of October. The YSRCP will also recruit employees to run the shops.
Swamy said, “Excise Department officials will monitor to prevent corruption anywhere. We have sent a proposal for 678 new excise constable posts. Women and the Opposition should also support this move.” He further added, “We talked to collectors and assured jobs who are holding the belt shops. We will soon decide on the prices. We operate state run shops from 10 A.M. to 9 P.M. We also discuss the timing of bar shops.”
The shops will be established in villages, nagar panchayats and municipal corporations. The major criteria which would be considered while setting up the shops are population, requirement, public order, health and safety.
This measure is the YSRCP’s step towards achieving its goal of making the State alcohol free during the Party’s tenure as the AP Government.
