On the 22nd of September, Wednesday, the United Kingdom (U.K.,) Government approved Covishield vaccine against the Wuhan virus (COVID-19) to an updated international travel advisory.

With the U.K., Government’s approval, people vaccinated with Covishield are no longer to undergo 10 days mandatory quarantine/self isolation. The Serum Institute of India (SII) manufactured Covishield was not recognised as a vaccine for the Wuhan virus. In the past, a U.K., Government official said, “The problem isn’t Covishield but India’s vaccine certificate.”

However, after repeated attempts of the Indian Government to get the approval, the U.K., Government finally added Covishield into the list of qualified vaccines for travel to England.

With this, individuals who have been fully vaccinated with Covishield across the world are allowed to travel to England, without any quarantine or PCR tests.

The U.K., Department For Transport (DfT) and the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) issued an official statement, which read, “From 4 am, October 4, you will qualify as fully vaccinated if you are vaccinated: under an approved vaccination programme in the U.K., Europe, the U.S.A., or U.K., vaccine programme overseas; with a full course of the Oxford/AstraZeneca, Pfizer BioNTech, Moderna or Janssen From 4 am, October 4, you will qualify as fully vaccinated if you are vaccinated: under an approved vaccination programme in the U.K., Europe, the U.S.A., or UK vaccine programme overseas vaccines from a relevant public health body in Australia, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Bahrain, Brunei, Canada, Dominica, Israel, Japan, Kuwait, Malaysia, New Zealand, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea or Taiwan; Formulations of the 4 listed vaccines, such as AstraZeneca Covishield, AstraZeneca Vaxzevria and Moderna Takeda, qualify as approved vaccines. You must have had a complete course of an approved vaccine at least 14 days before you arrive in England.”

In addition to this, a fully vaccinated person with the aforementioned COVID-19 vaccines need not to take a pre-departure PCR test. However, the passenger needs to book himself/herself for a test post-arrival in England and complete the compulsory passenger locator form.

The issued advisory for travel to England after being vaccinated with Covishield would be in effect from the 4th of October, 2021.

Stay tuned for further updates.
