In Karnataka, the death toll due to the Wuhan virus, also known as the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) , crossed the 33k mark.

On the 14th of June, with 120 deaths Karnataka crossed the death mark of 33,033, of which 15,319 death cases were from Bengaluru.

After Maharashtra, Karnataka is the second State with the highest number of COVID-19 cases and deaths.

The update of the COVID-19 was confirmed through a media bulletin, released on the 14th of June. As per media bulletin, “With 120 people, including 12 in Bengaluru, succumbing to the infection during the day, the state’s death toll shot up to 33,033 and the city’s toll to 15,319 since the pandemic broke out in mid March a year ago.”

Meanwhile, with 6,835 new cases, Karnataka has 27,71,969, including 1,72,141 active cases, while 25,66,774 recovered from the disease.

However, due to the imposed lockdown in the State, Karnataka is reporting a decline in the COVID-19 cases. The State’s positivity rate declined to 4.56 % while its case fatality rate was recorded at 1.75 %.

In addition, after an effective lockdown for more than a month, the Karnataka Government announced relaxations from the 14th of June. The relaxation in lockdown measures would be in place from 6:00 A.M.,on Monday to 6:00 A.M., on June 21. Though relaxations have been announced, night curfew (7:00 P.M., to 5:00 A.M.,) and weekend curfew (7:00 P.M., Friday till 5:00 A.M., Monday) would be in effect in all other districts, including Bengaluru City.

Shops selling essentials are allowed to open from 6:00 A.M., to 2:00 P.M., parks are allowed to open from 5:00 A.M., to 10:00 A.M., and street vendors can operate from 6:00 A.M., to 2:00 P.M.

Auto rickshaws and taxis with only 2 people at a time can ply. The garment industry can function with 30 % capacity and factories to be allowed with 50 % capacity.

According to the Government, important departments can operate with 50 % staff.

However, lockdown rules would still remain the same in 11 districts, which are said to be hotspots for COVID-19. The existing lockdown rules would continue for Chikkamagaluru, Davangere, Mysuru, Hassan, Chamarajanagar, Mandya, Dakshina Kannada, Bengaluru Rural, Shivamogga, Belagavi and Kodagu with high test positivity rate (TPR.)
