The Uddhav Thackeeay led Maharashtra Government on the 12th of April, announced to postpone the 2021 boards examination.

According to sources, due to the surge in the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 cases, the Shiv Sena Government announced a delay in 10th and 12th classes examination.

Varsha Gaikwad, the Minister of School Education of Maharashtra made the announcement. She said, “Given the current Covid-19 situation in Maharashtra, we’ve postponed state board exams for class 10th & 12th. The present circumstances are not conducive for holding exams. Your health is our priority.” She further added, “Class 12th exams will be held by the end of May, while 10th standard exams will be in June. Fresh dates will be announced accordingly.” Initially, the 10th and 12th boards examinations were scheduled to be held from the 30th and the 23rd of April. The Maharashtra Government also said they would also write to other state and national board examinations to reconsider the board examination dates for 2021.

The decision came days after Uddhav Thackeray, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, announced to promote students of class I to class VIII without any examinations. A similar decision was taken for students of class IX and class XI.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra is the worst COVID-19 hit state in India. The State contributes close to 50 % of the Coronavirus cases. The State alone recorded close to 5 lakh active cases.
