After issuing an alert for the possible third wave of the Wuhan virus, the Ministry of Home Affairs issued an alert for the festival seasons.

On the 28th of August, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued an alert for Indian states and union territories (UTs) amid the upcoming festival seasons. Starting with the festivals, in September, the nation would celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi, followed by Navaratri, Diwali and Christmas.

Considering the upcoming festivals, the MHA advised people not to gather in large groups, avoid crowded places and follow the COVID-19 guidelines strictly.

Ajay Bhalla, the Secretary of the Union Home Ministry, issued an order regarding the same, which read, “In the exercise of powers, conferred under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, the undersigned hereby directs that the order of the Ministry of Home Affairs to ensure compliance to the containment measures for COVID-19, as conveyed vide Ministry of Health & Family Welfare will remain in force up to September 30, 2021.” The notice was issued as per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, which extended the enforcement of existing COVID-19 containment measures till the 30th of September.

Mr. Ajay Bhalla also said, “We need to continue our focus on the five fold strategy — test, track, treat, vaccination and adherence to COVID appropriate behaviour.”

In addition, he asked Indian states andUTs ro continue their COVID-19 vaccination drive, administering anti Wuhan virus doses to eligible people. In a separate communication, the Union MHA asked the state and UT governments to ensure people are following COVID-19 appropriate behavior like wearing face masks, social distancing and other protocols strictly.

The issued advice came at a time when India once again started reporting more than 40,000 single day cases of the Wuhan virus (COVID-19.) In the past 24 hours, India reported 46,759 new COVID-19 cases and 509 deaths. This is the highest number of single day cases reported in the last 2 months.
