New Delhi: A-list stars serving as brand ambassadors of the mission “Swachch Bharat” attended an event on Thursday at the Rashtrapathi Bhawan. The celebrities met President Pranab Mukherjee at the event.
Stars including Kamal Haasan, Lakshmi Manchu, Tamannaah Bhatia, Amala Akkineni, Kapil Sharma and others were seen at the ceremony. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, yoga exponent Baba Ramdev and industrialist Anil Ambani were also spotted.
President Pranab Mukherjee congratulated the Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu for involving public figures as the brand ambassadors in the mission. The President also said that over the past one year, significant strides have been made in Swachh Bharat Mission but much more needs to be done.
He added that the success of the mission is equally dependent on each the action of each individual and hence the strategy is to engage the country’s icons as Swachh Bharat ambassadors to make it a ‘Jan Andolan’.
The President also added that an ambassador does not only encourage followers but also motivates them to become ambassadors themselves for the mission.
Mr. Naidu said that the mission of Swachch Bharat is all about mindsets and the ambassadors should go to the nook and corner of the country to spread the message. On the occasion, he released a coffee table book on Swachch Bharat and presented the first copy to Pranab Mukherjee.
