Beijing: An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale jolted the northwest of China on Friday. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake shook the province of Xinjiang and the nearest city is located 95 kilometres from the epicentre. So far, no reports of casualties and damages have been registered.

The USGS said that the quake hit 160 km northwest of the region’s southern city of Hotan near Guma county at a depth of 10 km. Nearly the area experienced eight earthquakes in 2015. The quake rocked the area and created panic among the people.
