Manchu Lakshmi: Outrageous article on IAS officer Smitha Sabharwal is unacceptable

Hyderabad: “The article carried by a leading news magazine about an high ranking officer Smitha Sabharwal is unacceptable”, says actress Manchu Lakshmi. The popular magazine in a recent article called “No Boring Babu” described the bureaucrat as an “Eye Candy”. Not just that, the magazine also carried a cartoon of the officer walking on a ramp and Chief Minister of Telangana K. Chandrasekhar Rao and others capturing her in their cameras.

Speaking about the article, Manchu Lakshmi said that a woman from such high ranking position getting subjectified like that is unacceptable. She questioned why a beautiful woman cannot get into such position and what is media trying to opinionate the people. She added that media has to feel responsible. Lakshmi said that a strict action should be taken against the media house for carrying such chauvinist title, article and cartoon on the civil servant.

The article also said, “She makes a fashion statement with her lovely saris and serves as an “eye candy” at meetings.” Enraged by such “chauvinist” remarks, the officer sent a legal notice to the magazine for carrying such cheap piece on her. She even slammed the magazine calling it “distasteful, cheap and titillating.”
