The winner of Bigg Boss (season 11,) Shilpa Shinde, on the 5th of February, joined the Indian National Congress (INC.)
Ms. Shinde joined the INC under the leadership of Sanjay Nirupam, the INC Chief of Mumbai, ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. However, an official announcement regarding the same is yet to be made.
Speaking about her decision to join the INC, Shinde said, “I don’t know, but my father was also in Congress. He was a good friend of Sharad Pawar and Sushil Kumar Shinde.” She further said, “The Congress party (the INC) has run the Country for ages. This is why I decided to join it. Today, the Country is in dire need of change and only the Congress can bring about this change.”
When asked about why she did not join the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS,) Ms. Shinde said, “The Congress does not look at any caste or religion while extending a helping hand to those in need. However, the MNS only focuses on Marathi speaking people. When I needed help, the MNS gave a Marathi angle to my plight.”
Shilpa Shinde is likely to get a ticket to contest in Mumbai. However, she did not reveal any such details. She said, “Yeah. Right now, I am joining the party. Later, I will get a clear picture from (where) I am going to fight.”
The Lok Sabha elections are scheduled between April and May 2019. The major parties contesting are the INC and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.)
