Amaravati: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has been closely monitoring the heavy rainfall situation across Andhra Pradesh, canceling all scheduled programs to prioritize relief measures. Since the morning, the CM has conducted multiple reviews and held a teleconference in the evening with the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, Ministers, District Collectors, and Superintendents of Police. During the meeting, he directed the immediate release of Rs. 3 crore to each affected district for relief operations.

Officials briefed the Chief Minister that eight people have lost their lives due to the relentless rains. In response, the CM announced compensation of Rs. 5 lakh to be provided to the families of the deceased.

Urgency in Coastal Districts

The Chief Minister emphasized the need for heightened vigilance, especially in three districts of Uttarandhra, as a storm is expected to cross the coast between Srikakulam and Visakhapatnam. With winds forecasted to reach speeds of 55 to 65 km/h, the CM instructed district collectors to keep coastal villages on high alert. He urged officials to prepare in advance, using precise predictions about the storm’s path and wind speeds, to minimize potential damage.

Drawing lessons from the Hudhud cyclone, Chandrababu Naidu stressed that the focus should be on proactive measures to prevent losses rather than reacting afterward. He advised all government departments to remain on full alert and urged the public to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary, particularly as more rain is expected on Sunday, with some areas already recording 10 to 20 cm of rainfall.

Minister Kollu Ravindra and officials informed the CM that the water level in Budameru is rising, and steps are being taken to drain the accumulated water from roads in Vijayawada.
