Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Passes Away

Shillong: India’s most influential personality Dr APJ Abdul Kalam passed away on Monday in Shillong. He was 84. The former President was admitted to a private hospital in Meghalaya. He collapsed while delivering a lecture to the students of the B-school at the Indian Institute of Management-Shillong. He was immediately admitted to the hospital in a critical condition.

The government of India has announced seven days mourning as a mark of respect towards Dr Kalam throughout the country and he will be given the full state honours for his funeral.

He was in the Intensive Care Unit and doctors suspected that it could be cardiac arrest, according to reports. The demise of the Kalam has shook the nation.

Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam, popularly known as Abdul Kalam, was born on 15 October 1931 in Rameswaram. He served the nation as the 11th president from 2002 to 2007. After serving the nation for 5 years, Kalam decided to lead a simple life through public service, education and writings.He was also awarded the Bharat Ratna and Padma Bhushan for his incredible contribution to the country.

The most beloved person Kalam, who encouraged students to work for the country, was associated with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and made his mark in the history of the nation and field of science. He played a pivotal role in India’s Pokhran-II nuclear tests in 1998 and in the development of ballistic missiles and launch vehicle technology.

 

The citizens of the country including politicians, students and scientists are pouring in their condolences for the great and legendary teacher.
