Amaravati: Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu announced on Wednesday that flood relief funds have been disbursed to victims of the recent cyclonic storm in a record time of just 15 days. Addressing the media at the district collectorate in Vijayawada, he revealed that a total of ₹602 crore has been credited to the personal accounts of those affected by the Budameru floods and other impacted areas. The compensation process was carried out transparently, with lists displayed at village secretariats.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the state suffered losses amounting to ₹7,600 crore due to the storm, and those who haven’t received compensation yet will be paid by September 30. Naidu emphasized that his government’s relief efforts were the swiftest in the country, noting that every victim would be compensated.
Reflecting on the devastation caused, Naidu pointed to previous government neglect, stating that crucial modernization projects for Budameru were abandoned by the YSRCP administration. He also mentioned the record inflow of water at Prakasam Barrage, which reached 11.43 lakh cusecs, exceeding its capacity.
The Chief Minister praised the state’s rapid response, mobilizing NDRF teams, helicopters, boats, and drones to assist in relief efforts. Additionally, donations to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) reached ₹400 crore, with contributions coming from across society, including children.
Naidu assured that out of 17,000 relief applications, 14,000 will be cleared after thorough examination, and reasons for denial will be communicated.
