A jawan from the Indian Army was arrested by the Pendurthy police in Andhra. The police carried out the arrest after the jawan from Vishakhapatnam was charged with the murder of a 60 year old widow on June 13.

The accused was identified as Lenka Mohana Rao, a 26 year old from Nellimarla in Vizianagaram district. He has been reported to be a Nayak of the Indian Army in the Military Engineering Group in Bangalore.

Lenka Mohana Rao went for a vacation last year and never returned back to duty.

The police have reported that Mohana Rao knew the victim identified as Mahanti Ramalakshmi.

T. Ravi Kumar Murthy, DCP said, “Mohana is addicted to vices and has affairs with many women. He had taken several loans from people, but could not repay them. One Joggunaidu from Nellimarla, brother in law of the deceased, is a friend of Mohana Rao. He and Joggunaidu went to Rakmalakshmi’s house two months ago, when she suffered a leg fracture. He realized that the woman was staying alone and had some property.”

The media has reported Lenka Mohana Rao had married a girl last month from Akkayyapalem even though he had borrowed 40,000 from another woman with the promise of marriage.

The police informed the media the jawan’s multiple affairs had landed him in a lot of debt and planned to rob Ramalakshmi.

The police reported the day of the violent crime as June 13. They explained Mohana Rao blew chili powder in Ramalakshmi’s eyes but the victim recognized the accused and resisted. He then hacked the widow to death and stole Rs. 30,000 in cash and 170 grams of gold.

The police managed to crack the murder in just six days which came as a surprise for most. It was one clue the police got on a bike parked outside the victim’s house that solved the case.

The police had no clues and were at a dead end until news came to them about a black motorcycle that was parked outside Ramalakshmi’s house from 11:50 A.M., to 1:00 P.M., on the day of the murder. The lead they received also revealed the word ‘Mahanti’ was on the bike.

DCP Ravi Kumar explained, “This gave us leads to track the accused. During questioning, Jogunaidu told us that the vehicle belonged to him and he gave it to Mohan Rao on that day. We could trace Mohan Rao by tracking his old cell number and social media account and arrested him.”
