Indian Comes Home to Find Murdered Family in New Jersey

Narra Hanumantha Rao, a software employee working in New York and came home to New Jersey to find his wife and seven year old son murdered. The family belongs to Prakasam District of Andhra Pradesh.

Sasikala, 40, was an employee at a software company. She along with her son, Anish Sai, 7, were strangled to death. Rao found the bodies when he returned home from work on Thursday. The Prakasam District MLA of Andhra Pradesh, Y. Sambasiva Rao contacted the Telugu Association of North America (TANA) representative over a call about the incident. TANA gave confirmation of this news to the Minister. Hanumantha Rao and Sasikala were both software professionals. The couple have been living in the USA for nine years. After the birth of her son Anish, Sasikala opted for work from home. This is third such incident involving Indian people being killed in the United States.

On February 23, Srinivas Kuchibotla of Hyderabad was killed by Adam W. Purinton, an ex-serviceman of the Navy opened fire on him and another Indian friend in Kansas. Srinivas was working as an aeronautical engineer in Olathe, Kansas for a GPS maker. Another similar incident happened on February 10, when Vamshi Reddy Mamidala, of Warangal living in Milpitas, California was shot dead in the garage of his apartment building.

The increase of hate crimes over the past few months has reduced the number of students willing to go to the country for higher studies reducing enrollment by 23%. The reforms in H1B visa have also been acting as a deterrent for the employees opting to move to the USA.
