Mayawati Das, the President of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP,) on the 31st of March, accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of planting Bhim Army chief Chandrasekhar Azad as a spy in the BSP. Ms. Das stated, the reason the BJP did this was to divide the votes of the Dalits.

Chandrasekhar Azad, who is contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Varanasi, is said to be playing a divide and rule game on behalf of the BJP.

Mayawati tweeted, “With the ill-intention of dividing Dalit votes & taking advantage, the BJP has conspired to field Bhim Army chief Chandrasekhar from Varanasi LS seat. This organisation was formed under BJP conspiracy & with its anti-Dalit mindset, it is now indulging in despicable politics (sic.)”

Despite Chandrasekhar saying time and time again his fight during these elections is against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mayawati is convinced the new Party, the Bhim Army, was formed only to divide the votes.

Mayawati’s angry tweets against the BJP did not end there. In another tweet, Mayawati wrote, “The BJP tried hard to help Bhim Army chief Chandrasekhar join the BSP as its mole but failed in its conspiracy. It is very imperative in the national interest to dislodge autocratic, despotic anti-Dalit, OBC & minorities BJP from power. Please ensure no vote goes waste. My Appeal.”

The BJP, on its part, reacted to the accusations and made a statement of its own, saying it has no inclination of dividing votes based on caste and it didn’t plant any agents to do so. With regard to this, Rakesh Tripathi, the BJP spokesperson, said, “We don’t have agents like the BSP chief is claiming. We have workers in the party, not agents. It is the Opposition parties which have a tradition of keeping agents. It is unfortunate that Chandrashekhar, who keeps praising Mayawati, is being called a BJP agent by her.”.

At the moment, the ruling parties in Uttar Pradesh are the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP.) According to the reports so far, the alliance between these two parties could adversely affect the BJP’s chances of winning.

Chandrasekhar Azad started his campaign march from Varanasi at Kutcheri, on the 30th of March. Reacting to Mayawati’s accusations, Manjeet Nautiyal, the spokesperson of the Bhim Army, said, Mayawati is receiving false information about the Bhim Army’s activities. He further stated, the Party will clear the misunderstandings Mayawati has against the Party. He also expressed his wish to help Mayawati’s BSP defeat the BJP in the elections and said, the Bhim Army will support her, no matter what.

With only ten days to go for the biggest Lok Sabha Elections to begin, the Indian National Congress (INC) and the BJP are considered the major competitors in the elections.

The Lok Sabha elections will last from the 11th of April to the 19th of May and the results will be released on the 23rd of May.

Stay tuned for more updates!
