Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan Calls For All Party Meeting Before Budget Session

Today, the Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan called for an all party meeting for the 28th of January. The meeting will be held just a day before the Budget Session begins.

The meeting will concentrate on getting the Opposition’s support to ensure there are smooth proceedings in both Houses of Parliament during the Budget Session. The report also explained the meeting is being conducted because the Center hopes to make a smooth passage for the two controversial bills to be tabled in the Session. The two bills are the Triple Talaq Bill and the Financial Resolution and Deposit Insurance Bill.

This year’s Budget Session will be divided into parts. The first will begin on the 29th of January and end on the 5th of February. After the first part the Parliament will take a break of 23 days. The second part will begin on the 5th of March and end on the 6th of March.

On the 1st of February Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will present the first Budget for the Country after implementing the Goods and Services Tax (GST.) This will be the last full budget for the present Government. On the 29th of January President Ram Nath Kovind is expected to address the joint sitting of the two Houses. The Economic Survey will also be tabled on the same day.
