China had heavy rains on Sunday that resulted in the death of 56 people and 22 people are missing. The devastating disaster destroyed 11 Chinese provinces, collapsing 27,000 houses and 37,000 were damaged in the floods, hailstorms and landslide since June 29th.

The provinces affected were Zhejiang, Anhui, Chongqing, Guizhou, Hunan, Jiangxi, Hunbei, Sichuan, Yunnan, Guangdong, and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

The Ministry of Civil Affairs informed that the natural disaster caused direct economic losses of 25.27 billion yuan (USD 3.72 billion). The Chinese government has allocated 1.88 billion yuan (USD 270 million) for disaster relief to the 20 provinces.

The China National Commission for Disaster Reduction has sent teams and necessities to help the disaster struck areas of Zhejiang, Guizhou, Hunan and Jiangxi. The government has also deployed 3000 armed police to the front line fighting the flood in Hunan.

Yesterday, the Xiangjiang River has recorded the highest level of 39.51 meters by the Changsha monitoring station. The last time the water level was this high was in 1998 and recorded at 39.18 meters.
