Mumbai Bridge Collapse – Maharashtra CM Seeks Immediate Investigation

Devendra Fadnavis, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, on the 15th of March, asked the Mumbai Police to probe the Mumbai bridge collapse incident and submit their reports by the evening of the same day.

On the 14th of March, a portion of a footbridge collapsed, killing approximately 6 people and leaving 36 injured.

The incident took place on the 14th of March, during the rush hours of the evening, when a portion of the bridge, which connects the commuters to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, collapsed. Ambulance, fire brigades and the police reached the spot immediately. The injured were rushed to a hospital and are undergoing treatment.

According to sources, the bridge had some serious structural issues, due to which, it collapsed.

The accident led to a lot of questions being directed towards the officials who recently carried out an audit of the bridge and declared it safe, with the requirement of a few minor repairs.

On the other hand, the Railway Ministry of Maharashtra blamed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC,) the authority responsible for maintenance, for the collapse.

The commuters are angry with the BMC and the officials who audited the bridge and demanded strict action against them.

Devendra Fadnavis ordered the Mumbai Police to register a complaint and start the investigation immediately. He also ordered the police authorities to submit a report by the end of the 15th of March.

The Maharashtra Police launched an investigation, which is still going on.
