Hyderabad: Tension escalated at the University of Hyderabad (HCU) as students staged large-scale protests over the Kancha Gachibowli land dispute. Protesters gathered at the main gate of HCU, demanding the protection of disputed lands. Meanwhile, leaders from BJYM, ABVP, and Left parties attempted to enter the campus but were stopped by the police, leading to multiple detentions.
In response to the situation, Telangana CM Revanth Reddy held a high-level meeting with Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka and ministers Sridhar Babu, Jupalli Krishna Rao, Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, and Seethakka. The ministers are expected to address the media on the issue later today.
Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy reaffirmed that the 400 acres in Survey No. 25, Kancha Gachibowli, Serilingampalli Mandal legally belong to the Telangana government. He emphasized that the Congress government secured its ownership through court battles, dismissing HCU’s claims over the land. He also warned that any dispute over the land could be considered contempt of court.
Meanwhile, Vata Foundation has filed a PIL in the High Court, seeking to declare the land as a national park. The court will hear the case on Wednesday.
