Hyderabad witnessed heavy rain and hailstorm Tuesday night in several parts of the city. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD,) has predicted hailstorms for at least another two more days.

Due to the heavy showers on Tuesday night, the temperature dropped to 36.2° C on Wednesday that was the lowest recorded temperature in the last few weeks.

A thunderstorm warning has been announced for the next 24 hours and the storm might remain for as long as two days.

On Tuesday, the rain was measured at 96 mm. The storm on Tuesday caused quite a bit of chaos in the city, uprooting nearly 290 trees, around 32 electric poles were damaged, and water was stagnant in nearly 56 points around the city.

Due to the heavy rains, a number of places in the city were short on electricity and stayed in darkness till the next morning. The power cuts in a few areas like Banjara Hills, Kukatpally, Medchal, Gachibowli, Somajiguda, Dwarakapuri colony, and Ameerpet had to deal with power cuts throughout Wednesday as well.

The Electricity department received as many as 400 complaints from residents within the GHMC limits.

Unfortunately, areas like Begumpet, Tarnaka, SR Nagar and Rajendernagar were subjected to power cuts for 24 hours. A number of KV feeders catering to nearly 15 lakh households broke down.

A resident of Begumpet, Suresh Rao talked about the power cut problems they were facing, While we spent the entire night waiting for power supply to resume, the next day was spent dialing the electricity office, first for the restoration of power and then for complaining about low voltage. Because of low voltage, we could not pump groundwater to the overhead tank and as a result, the taps remained dry.”
