Tadepalle: The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has decided to boycott the Graduate Member of Legislative Council (MLC) elections, citing the coalition government’s alleged failure to uphold democratic principles and public safety.
Addressing the media on Thursday, senior YSRCP leaders, including former ministers Perni Nani and Ambati Rambabu, criticized the administration’s approach to governance, accusing it of neglecting law and order. They pointed to a recent surge in crimes against women, with over 100 cases reported and minimal action taken.
Perni Nani condemned what he described as diversionary tactics by the government, accusing it of ignoring electoral promises. He also raised concerns about YSRCP social media activists facing alleged harassment, with arbitrary arrests and cases filed against them for questioning the government.
The leaders further claimed that the coalition government has compromised the neutrality of law enforcement, allegedly using police as a private force for TDP leaders, leading to unfair treatment and arrests of YSRCP supporters.
In light of these issues, the YSRCP announced it would abstain from the Graduate MLC elections in Guntur, Krishna, and the combined Godavari districts, citing restrictions on candidates’ freedom to campaign and a lack of democratic integrity.
