Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu strongly criticized the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government for “ruining” the state’s power sector, leading to losses of ₹1.29 lakh crore and heavy financial burdens on consumers. Speaking at the inauguration of a 400/220 kV gas-insulated substation in Tallayapalem, Naidu pledged to bring stability to the power sector.
Naidu highlighted that power, which could have been purchased at ₹4.70 per unit, was acquired at ₹7.61, escalating costs for citizens. He also inaugurated five additional substations and laid the foundation for 14 projects totaling ₹4,665 crore, aimed at improving the state’s power infrastructure.
The Chief Minister accused the previous government of abandoning renewable energy agreements, causing a ₹9,000 crore payment to solar firms, and criticized frequent power tariff hikes, which burdened consumers with an additional ₹32,000 crore over five years.
He pledged not to raise power tariffs for the next five years, recalling Andhra Pradesh’s progress from a power-deficient state in 2014 to a power surplus under his previous administration.
Expressing concerns over recent negative social media posts, Naidu urged police action against abusive content and vowed to protect the state from such “evildoers.”
