Tadepalle: The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has voiced strong opposition to the alleged harassment and arrests of social media activists who questioned government corruption and sought the fulfillment of election promises. YSRCP Legal Cell President Manohar Reddy expressed deep concern over these actions, warning of legal consequences for officials undermining democratic principles.
Addressing the media, Manohar Reddy emphasized that contempt of court cases could be filed against any officials engaging in intimidation tactics, and if necessary, the matter would be taken to the Supreme Court. He criticized police officials for allegedly intimidating the families of YSRCP supporters and accused the Director General of Police (DGP) of politically biased actions in public briefings.
Former MLA TGR Sudhakar Babu condemned the arrests, calling them an infringement on free expression. He assured support for party social media activists facing undue charges, encouraging them to report any form of harassment. Additionally, he demanded that the DGP address similar abusive posts made by TDP members against YSRCP leaders, cautioning that selective inaction could have repercussions.
YSRCP leaders urged the authorities to respect democratic values and protect citizens’ rights to freedom of speech.
