The year 2016 was quite a safe year for the aviation industry. According to the data released by the Aviation Safety Network, the year 2016 has been the second safest year for aviation. The media reports news of deadly plane crashes but it is important to be aware of all the planes that landed safely last year. Regardless of high-profile accidents, the year 2016 has been safe for commercial aviation. A total of 19 lethal accidents occurred causing 325 deaths according to the reports of Aviation Safety Network data.

Out of 3 billion people who boarded planes, only 265 deaths had taken place in the year 2013. The recent year had experienced 325 deaths which make it the second safest year. The newly enforced safety procedures led to fewer accidents. Two out of nineteen accidents that had taken place in 2016 were managed by the airlines on the European Union blacklist. E.U. blacklist is a list of airlines failing to meet the governing standards of the European Union and are thus banned from entering the airspace of any member state.
Aviation Safety Network President Harro Ranter said, “Since 1997 the average number of airliner accidents has shown a steady and persistent decline, for a great deal thanks to the continuing safety-driven efforts by international aviation organizations such as ICAO, IATA, Flight Safety Foundation and the aviation industry”.
High Profile tragedies that occurred in 2016 was Egyptair Flight 804, a Paris to Cairo flight that disappeared in Mediterranean in May and killed 66 on board. The other tragic accident was FlyDubai Flight 981 that led to the loss of 62 lives due to an aborted landing in Russia.
The year 2016 had been the safest year, leading to 325 deaths in total which is 1 per 10,769,230 travelers in the whole year.
