On Wednesday, a gunman killed three people and severely injured a fourth before being shot dead by a police deputy. The authorities said this was one of the many deadly shootings since 2015.
There were multiple shootings in different locations along the country road that runs through the Skowhegan Fairgrounds and Somerset County. Steve McCausland of the Maine Department of Public Safety said this ended in the deputies killing the gunman.
The details about the wounded are not yet clear and the police have not revealed the identity of either the gunman or the victim. They also declined to disclose the details of the investigation.
According to reports, the investigation is mainly focused on the house that had a party on the occasion of Fourth of July and had fireworks all night. The police were present at the site till late on Wednesday evening.
The incident happened 4 miles from the center of the town in Madison which has a population of 4,800. The Attorney General’s office dispatched investigators to the site of shooting and review the use of force by the Sheriff’s deputies.
