UN issued a probe into the Indian peacekeepers at Haiti. This probe was initiated as they arrived into the country without the mandatory Cholera vaccination. In the last year, July and August more than 100 men of Assam Rifles landed in Haiti after being certified by the home ministry of  having taken the vaccine. Assam Paramilitary are one of the country’s oldest force.

The UN demanded a clarification from the Indian Government as to why they confirmed vaccination after it was not done. In 2010, a similar incident happened where a cholera outbreak happened in Haiti. The UN was accused of having caused this outbreak. The then UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon apologised for the outbreak in an address to the general assembly in the last month.

Till 2010, there was not a single case of Cholera in Haiti. And the same year Nepal’s UN peacekeepers arrived in the country. These were blamed for the outbreak of cholera as they performed daily acts of cleansing in the river that was situated directly next to their camp.

After the rare gesture of apology even after denying the claims initially, UN is infuriated as to why the Assam peacekeepers have falsely claimed about getting vaccinated.
