Man tries to set airplane on fire: Thanks to the alertness of the flight crew, a major disaster avoided. As per the Chinese Aviation Authority, a man reportedly tried to set-off fire on board the Chinese flight, but fortunately he was successfully restrained by passengers and crew members.
This is not first such incident either, several such similar incidents were reported in recent past. These string of rash incidents include passengers opening emergency exits and fights between flyers and crew members.
Sources tell us that the arson incident occurred on Sunday around 1 AM aboard a Shenzhen Airlines flight. The flight was scheduled from the city of Taizhou to Guangzhou near Hong Kong. The Civil Aviation Administration of China said that an investigation was underway but gave no other details.
Photos posted on newspaper websites showed a partially charred passenger seat and a blackened emergency exit door. Official broadcaster CCTV reported the pilot issued a mayday call and the plane was guided into Guangzhou airport. Slides were deployed and 95 passengers and nine crew members were evacuated.
