On Tuesday morning, North Korea fired a ballistic missile into the East Sea. South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff in a statement said this feat was done at 9:40 A.M., when the North fired a missile off its east coast.
The ballistic missile was fired from the Banghyon Air Base located in the North Pyongan Province. The officials said the missile traveled for about 930 km and landed in the East Sea. The South Korean military officials said they are still analyzing the type of missile fired.
A National Security Council meeting was scheduled for 11:30 A.M., on Tuesday.
North Korea, after the start of 2017 tested 11 missiles, the last one on June 8. On June 8, the country fired several short range anti ship cruise missiles from the east coast. These missiles flew 200 km and reached an altitude of 6,560 feet and landed between Japan and North Korea in the waters.
This latest launch came immediately after Mr. Moon returned from meeting with the US President Donald Trump in Washington. Both the leaders agreed to a bilateral alliance for “complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.”
However, South Korean media said the South Korea and US alliance was “no more than a lever for domination and subordination and noose of submission.” They also called it “Sycophancy and submission” to the US and that it is the South’s demise.
President Moon has time and again tried to approach Pyongyang softly. But Pyongyang insisted on distancing from Washington. This missile test, which is against South Korea’s wishes is a big blow to the peace talks.
