The 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump, on Friday signed an order a four month ban on allowing refugees into the Nation. He also temporarily banned visitors from Syria and six other major Muslim countries. Mr. Trump in a statement said this will help in protecting Americans from terrorist attacks. While President Trump’s supporters praised the decision, it has been equally criticized by civil rights group.

The order stresses for “Protecting the nation from foreign terrorist entry into the US” it imposes a 120 day suspension of the complete US Refugee Admission Program. The order also puts a 90 days ban on entry of refugees from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Sudan, Somalia, Syria, and Yemen for terrorism concerns. Also, until Trump comes to a decision that Syrian refugees won’t compromise the Country’s security, he suspended the Syrian refugee program. But this ban is not imposed on minority religious groups, and those who are fleeing war in Syria will have permission to process refugee requests.

The President also said that this decision was taken to keep away radicals and Islamic terrorists from the United States. The order was also expected to include the ‘setting up of safe zones’ in Syria for the refugees in the country which was not done. Another policy included in this order is that the states and cities should have a say in deciding whether refugees should be permitted to live there or not.

The previous President, Mr. Obama set a limit of 1,10,000 refugees for the 2017 year to be allowed into the country. But President Trump plans on cutting this to 50,000 which will affect students, green card holders and those entering the US for medical support.
