A quick walk down the lane we give you things and people that changed lives in these 20 years. 1997 was the year that had some of the best moments that happened. A remarkable year, it meant the start of childhood for many.
1. The most important of these milestones of 1997 was the publishing of the first book of the Harry Potter series. On June 26, 1997, the world was introduced to the green eyed child, the boy who lived that changed our childhood with “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.” Fans have gone as far as requesting to declare June 26 as an international Holiday!
2. South Park, the hot favorite of many till date made it’s TV debut in 1997 August.
3. March 10, the day Buffy- The Vampire Slayer, slayed our screens with her presence. 20 years and is still an icon that millions know.
4. 2017 also marks twenty year anniversary since Pokémon: Indigo League premiered on TV in Japan.
5. 1997 was also the last year the Pokémon Porygon was featured in the anime. After the episode “Dennō Senshi Porygon” many protested that it caused epileptic seizures and hence had to be discontinued.
6. Also, Teletubbies premiered on BBC2 in March 1997, which means that soon there will be twenty years old around the world that have lived without Tinky, Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa and Po.
7. Actors like Chloe Grace Moretz, who has been in the business of movies for 11 years and Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark in Game of Thrones since she was 14, will be turning 20 this year.
8. The other person turning 20 this year is Malala Yousafzai, who already has achieved as much in her life that only a few can dream about. From addressing the UN to publishing a book to fighting the Taliban with words. She made a remarkable change in the way the world views women.
9. Also, Olympic gymnast Simone Biles, who won five medals and millions of hearts at the Rio Olympics in 2016 will be turning 20 years this year.
10. August 1997, the month that the world lost Princess Diana, Princess of Wales. If alive, she would have been the successor to Queen Elizabeth II, and the world would have witnessed the most elegant queen of our times.
11. 1997 also marks the first time a celebrity came out of the closet. In April 2007, it would be 20 whole years since Ellen DeGeneres came out to the world on that iconic Time cover.
12. This year also marks two decades after the Spice Girls achieved world domination. It will be 20 years since we first witnessed the Union Jack dress in February 2017.
13. Titanic, the iconic movie that gave us Jack and Rose, Leonardo Di Caprio and Kate Winslet are still #relationship goals and our hearts flew with them in the iconic scene. 2017 will mark 20 years of Titanic’s domination over the box office, making it highest grossing movie ever.
14. 1997 was also the year we witnessed Will Smith in Men in Black. 2017 marks the twentieth anniversary of “Men In Black” and “Good Will Hunting.”
15. This year marks the 20 years of Mike Tyson losing his boxing license after he bit the ear off Evander Holyfield in a fight.
16. Last but not the least Google, although the website didn’t officially launch until 1998, the domain name “Google.com” turns 20 in September this year.
