Trinity Gay, daughter of Olympic Gold Medalist, dies in a Shooting

She didn’t make it. I’m so confused. She was just here last week for fall break. It’s so crazy. I have no idea what happened.” said a devastated Tyson Gay when approached about the death of his 15 year old daughter, Trinity Gay. Gay, a brilliant athlete who studied at the Lafayette High School at Lexington, died after a shooting at a local restaurant, Cook Out.

Taylor Middleton, a friend of Trinity’s who was with her during the shooting, said that they were in the parking lot of the restaurant when the first round of shots were fired. She noticed Trinity had been shot, but they couldn’t do anything at first. When the shots stopped, Middleton says some friends put Trinity Gay in the car and drove to the hospital.

The Lexington police say they responded to a call of shots fired at the restaurant on South Broadway just before 4 A.M. They followed Trinity’s friends to UK hospital where she died from her injuries just before 5 A.M., Sunday.

By Sunday night, the police had tracked down the two vehicles involved in shooting. The two cars exchanged gunfire, then drove away.

Tyson Gay told the press that he was flying back to Lexington on Sunday. He has received countless wishes and much support from people close and afar. We can only hope that he makes it through this tragic time with the required morale.
