Earthquake of 6.4 Magnitude hits China

An earthquake of massive magnitude spread tremors across the Qinghai province of China today afternoon. But it being a sparsely populated province, the U.S., Geographical Survey have suggested a low likelihood of casualties and damage.

The quake, which shook the northwestern province at 3:14 P.M., was 32 kilometers deep and 6.4 on the Richter scale, in magnitude with its epicentre in Yushu. Yushsu had also previously seen a 6.9 magnitude earthquake in the month of April of 2010 with created tremors of shock across the world and 2,700 people dead and more than 12,000 injured in the province. In 2011, it was again struck by a 5.3 magnitude quake.

The China Earthquake Network Centre (CENC) gave the latest tremor a magnitude of 6.2 and a depth of nine kilometres, with its epicentre in Zadoi; the causality count as of now is limited.
