Antonio Guterres, the United Nations Secretary General has assured diplomatic efforts are underway to initiate dialogue between India and Pakistan. This dialogue is so as to resolve the decades old Kashmir dispute between two countries.

Guterres met the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi twice and Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif thrice to bring them together for negotiations.

Guterres also expressed concern over the increasing tension between the two countries and the regular ceasefire violations on the Line of Control. From 2014 to 2017, the violations and cross border firing by Pakistani Security Forces increased many folds on the international border.

The Pakistan troops also have used heavy weapons and mortars in their recent violations. These attacks forced several villages to migrate, which is 3,000 people including women and children.

The 2014 dialogue was cancelled between the two countries after Pakistan High Commissioner refused to call off talks with the separatist leaders of Kashmir. India time and again objected to these talks, which were ignored by Pakistan.
