Ashutosh Rana, an actor, expressed his support, today, for Naseeruddin Shah, who is facing merciless criticism for his comment about Bulandshahr violence.
Ashutosh Rana supported freedom of thought and said, “Everyone has the right to share his/her views. If someone speaks his mind in the country, does that mean there should be a social trial? We should seriously listen to him/her instead” He further asked, “If someone is speaking his mind and there is a debate, will it improve the country’s economic situation?”
Sharing his views about Indian culture, Mr. Rana said, “Independence stands for simplicity and gentleness and that is what our culture is.”
Naseeruddin Shah, on Friday, made a remark stating, “There is complete impunity for those who take the law into their own hands. In many regions we are witnessing that the death of a cow has more significance than that of a police officer.”
Political parties and leaders reacted to Mr. Shah’s comment and protested against him.
Mr. Shah, who shared his concern about his kids, was asked to leave the nation if he feels insecure.
Mr. Shah addressed the media and shared his concern about his kids, saying, “I feel anxious for my children because tomorrow if a mob surrounds them and asks, ‘Are you a Hindu or a Muslim?’ they will have no answer.”
Apart from Ashutosh Rana, celebrities like Madhur Bhandarkar, Swara Bhaskar and Barkha Dutt took to Twitter and supported Naseeruddin Shah.
So we should defend abhijit Iyer Mitra right to call women bimbos and journalists to be jailed and lefty “scum” to be targeted with machine guns because that’s free speech eh, but #NaseeruddinShah must not speak about communal poison and marginalised minorities. Makes sense. https://t.co/t9IcRFXybx

Yes and Indians are most tolerant people until u dare share an experience suggesting otherwise.. then we will show our celebrated tolerance by abusing u, berating u, accusing u, trolling u, mocking u, taunting u & sometimes lynching u. #NaseeruddinShah https://t.co/bC4ihxpleI
