P. Chidambaram, a Congress leader, along with his son Karti Chidambaram, was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED,) today, in New Delhi.

P. Chidambaram, the former Finance Minister of India, was summoned with regard to the INX Media money laundering case (May 2007.)

The case revolves around the irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance given to INX Media. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) alleged Karti of taking a bribe of Rs. 10 lakhs to use his influence and gain investment from Mauritius for INX Media. A total of Rs. 305 crores was used illegally during the tenure of P. Chidambaram as the Union Finance Minister. The ED and the CBI are probing these irregularities.

Both the accused, P. Chidambaram and Karti Chidambaram, appeared at the office of the ED today and gave their statements. In November, the Delhi High Court extended Chidambaram’s temporary protection from arrest till the 15th of January, 2019.

Karti Chidambaram was arrested on the 28th of February 2018, for being the main accused in the INX Media money laundering case. The ED also attached Karti Chidambaram’s properties in India, the U.K. and Spain worth Rs. 54 crores to the registered case.

The case also involves the owners of INX Media, Indrani Mukerjea and Peter Mukerjea.
