Two militants, belonging to the Jaish e Mohammad (JeM) and four Army jawans were killed in an overnight encounter in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir.

According to the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the deceased soldiers were a part of 55 Rashtriya Rifles. A civilian was also killed during the gunbattle.

The fight broke out, on the 17th of February, at midnight, after the Jammu and Kashmir officials received information regarding the Jaish e Mohammad militants hiding in Pinglan, Pulwama. The fight stopped after two militants were killed.

The two militants were identified as Kamran and Alias Gazi, the mastermind behind the Pulwama terror attack, which took place on the 14th of February.

However, the battle started again at 9:00 A.M., after the Army officials received additional information about 2 to 3 more militants hiding in the area.

The Pulwama terror attack, led by the JeM, killed 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans. Adil Ahmad Dar, a suicide attacker, rammed a Scorpio loaded with 350 kg explosives into a convoy of 78 vehicles, which killed 40 jawans and left several injured.

The encounter is still going on in Pinglang, 10 km away from Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir.

Bus services across the Line of Control (LoC) from Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir to Rawalakot, Pakistan, occupying the area of Kashmir, are suspended. Internet services have also been discontinued in Srinagar, Anantnag, Sopore, Bandipora, Kulgam, Kupwara, Baramulla and Handwara.

The State is under a curfew since the 14th of February.
