B. Venkatesh, a constable at the Chilkalguda Police Station, allegedly killed his father on Friday noon in Gandhinagar, Hyderabad. The victim was identified as Yellaiah, a 58 years old man and worked as a rickshaw puller.
Venkatesh choked his father’s neck with a towel and later to confirm the death, stabbed his father with a knife.
A senior police official said, “He overpowered his father and strangulated him. Not stopping there, to confirm if he had died Venkatesh stabbed his father with a knife as well.”
The incident took place around 2:00 P.M., when all the family members were out except Venkatesh’s wife who tried to stop him but failed.
Musheerabad police launched an investigation and arrested the accused. The victim’s body was also sent to the Mahatma Gandhi morgue for an autopsy.
According to the initial investigation, Venkatesh, a 48 year old was a resident of Mureeshabad. He was on leave few days because of his mental illness. The accused was also undergoing treatment regarding the same.
A police official said, “He is frustrated over some unknown issues and was being treated by a psychiatrist. We got it verified too. Preliminary investigation revealed no family or financial dispute.”
The Mureeshabad police have filed a case against Venkatesh and an investigation is underway.
