Vijayawada; Farmers from the Amaravati capital region embarked on a significant ‘Padayatra’ from Mandadam to the Kanaka Durga temple, fervently praying for the swift completion of the capital city’s construction. Hundreds of women walked nearly 10 kilometers to reach the sacred site.
Under the land pooling scheme, Amaravati farmers generously contributed around 30,000 acres to the state government for the capital’s development. These farmers have strongly opposed the proposal for three capitals, leading a 1600-day agitation demanding Amaravati remains the sole capital.
Previously, the farmers conducted a Padayatra to Tirupati and attempted another to Arasavalli, which was halted due to protests by YSRCP supporters. The recent electoral victory of the Telugu Desam alliance affirmed Amaravati’s status as the exclusive capital, leading the government to start jungle clearance in the capital region.
On Sunday, women farmers from Amaravati participated in the Padayatra, carrying ‘Bonam’ on their heads. Kanaka Durga temple authorities warmly welcomed the Amaravati farmers, facilitating a special darshan for them.
