Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh government has officially implemented the “Deepam-2” scheme, providing three free cooking gas cylinders per year to eligible women. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu will formally launch the scheme on November 1 in Srikakulam. This initiative is part of the state’s “Super Six” promises aimed at easing household expenses.

On Wednesday, the Chief Minister handed over funds to representatives of Bharat Petroleum, Hindustan Petroleum, and Indian Oil Corporation at the State Secretariat, allocating a subsidy of Rs 894 crore for this month’s disbursement. In total, the scheme is expected to cost Rs 2,684 crore annually, with eligible women receiving one free gas cylinder every four months.

Beneficiaries can start booking their cylinders as the scheme is now active. The state government has ensured that Rs 876 (excluding a central subsidy of Rs 25) will be credited directly to beneficiaries’ accounts within 48 hours of booking.

Present at the event were Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar and scheme beneficiaries, including Ms. Balamma from Tenali, Ms. Bhavani from Eluru, and Ms. Mangatayaru from Vijayawada.
