Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan announced the launch of a pilot project for Solid and Liquid Resource Management (SLRM) in Pithapuram and Bhimavaram assembly constituencies. The initiative aims to maintain cleanliness in rural areas, generate Rs. 2645 crores annually for Panchayats, and provide employment for 2.5 lakh people.
During a media address at a photo exhibition on SLRM at Panchayat Raj headquarters, Kalyan emphasized the sacredness of water and the need to protect it from pollution. He highlighted the severe impact of plastic waste on the environment and livestock, stating, “Water is sacred to us. It should be protected from pollution. It is sad that cows are dying due to eating plastic covers.”
The Vellore Model SLRM will be implemented, with wet and dry waste collected door-to-door in tricycles and segregated by units of six women. Kalyan criticized the previous government for weakening the administrative system and leaving Panchayats underfunded.
