Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh government has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe alleged illegal activities in the liquor trade between October 2019 and March 2024. The seven-member SIT will be headed by Vijayawada Police Commissioner Rajasekhar Babu and will function under the supervision of the CID DIG.

As per the government order, the SIT has been granted full powers to investigate financial irregularities, including alleged cash transactions amounting to ₹90,000 crore in liquor sales and large-scale violations related to holograms. The Excise Department has been directed to provide complete data on liquor sales to the investigation team.

The SIT members include Errachandan Task Force SP Subbarayudu, Additional SP Kolli Srinivas, CID ASP Sriharibabu, Don DSP Srinivas, and CI Shivaji. The team is required to submit progress reports to the government every 15 days through the CID chief.

The probe comes amid allegations of financial mismanagement and corruption in the liquor trade during the previous government’s tenure. The SIT is expected to scrutinize revenue leakages, unauthorized sales, and possible links to illicit financial transactions.
