Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to conduct public examinations for first-year intermediate students starting next year, aligning with proposed educational reforms. The Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) recently sought suggestions on key proposals, including the implementation of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) syllabus, examination patterns, and internal marks system. After receiving feedback until January 26, the government resolved to retain public examinations for first-year students.

Concerns were raised that the absence of exams could reduce students’ focus on studies and weaken their learning abilities. Consequently, the government has decided to withdraw proposals related to the internal marks system. Under the new structure, the NCERT syllabus will be implemented, and public exams will be conducted for both first-year and second-year students following the current format.

Notable changes include the merging of Mathematics A and B into a single paper, and Biology will now integrate plant and animal sciences. English will be mandatory in both language subjects, with an additional language offered as an optional choice. The Board of Intermediate Education is set to convene soon to finalize and pass resolutions on these reforms.
