Amaravati: Amid the state government’s initiatives to curb hateful and defamatory posts on social media, a unique awareness campaign has caught the public’s attention in Andhra Pradesh’s capital region. As part of efforts to promote responsible online behavior, flex boards featuring the iconic “three wise monkeys” have been installed in Amaravati, Guntur, and Vijayawada.
The displays, accompanied by slogans urging people to “not post bad things” and “stay morally upright,” aim to combat false propaganda and slander on social media platforms. The messages are presented in both English and Telugu to ensure widespread understanding and appeal.
This initiative follows a series of recent actions taken by the police against individuals using social media for personal insults and offensive posts, particularly those targeting women. Legal cases have been filed, and some offenders have been sent to jail as part of these measures.
While the source of the campaign remains unclear, speculation suggests that voluntary organizations may have launched it to raise public awareness ahead of potential new government regulations on social media conduct. Hoardings and flex boards promoting the message to “use social media for good” are expected to inspire thoughtful online interactions and discourage harmful content.
