Beijing: China has responded positively to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks advocating healthy competition between India and China. The Chinese government appreciated Modi’s comments, emphasizing that mutual cooperation would benefit both nations. Modi made these remarks during his recent interview on Lex Friedman’s podcast in the United States.

China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Mao Ning, highlighted that the October 2023 meeting between Prime Minister Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Kazan, Russia, played a crucial role in improving bilateral relations and strategic cooperation. She reiterated that India and China, as two of the world’s largest developing nations, have historically maintained friendly relations and learned from each other to contribute to human progress.

Mao Ning further stated that China is prepared to work with India in alignment with the shared goals of both leaders. The statement underlines Beijing’s readiness to enhance diplomatic engagement and foster regional stability.

Modi had previously asserted that India prefers negotiations to resolve border conflicts and aims to restore pre-2020 conditions along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). He emphasized that competition between the two nations should remain constructive and not escalate into conflict.
