Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu reaffirmed his commitment to Scheduled Caste (SC) sub-categorization, ensuring equitable distribution of reservations among SC sub-groups. Speaking in the Assembly on Thursday, he highlighted the Supreme Court’s approval of sub-categorization and assured that no community would be disadvantaged. He emphasized that the decision, based on the 2011 Census, will initially be implemented at the state level, with district-level execution planned after the 2026 Census.
CM Naidu recalled the 30-year struggle to achieve this reform, noting that it was first initiated during his tenure in 1995. He praised NTR’s contributions to social justice, including permanent housing and welfare schools for SCs and STs. He also referenced the Justice Punnayya Commission, which identified discrimination and led to 25 government orders addressing untouchability.
The Mishra Commission, formed in 2024, proposed three SC sub-categories:
- Most Backward (Relli sub-groups) – 1% reservation
- Backward (Madiga sub-groups) – 6.5% reservation
- Relatively Less Backward (Mala sub-groups) – 7.5% reservation
TDP remains committed to eradicating untouchability, enforcing tribal land rights, and ensuring swift justice for caste-related atrocities.
