Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has ruled out the possibility of by-elections in the state, stating that the government will follow the precedents set between 2014 and 2023 regarding MLAs who switch parties. He asserted that his government remains committed to development and welfare, while accusing the opposition of spreading false propaganda to prevent investments in the state.
During a discussion on Home and Administration in the Assembly on Wednesday, the CM referenced past instances where opposition MLAs joined Bharasa without disqualification, some even becoming ministers. “The law and constitution have not changed since then. By-elections will not be held under the same procedures followed during that period,” he said.
Revanth Reddy also responded to Bharasa MLA Harish Rao’s objection regarding the Supreme Court case on party-switching MLAs, stating that Assembly discussions are protected under legislative privilege.
Regarding elections, the CM noted that if Jamili elections are implemented, the current Assembly’s term will be extended by six months, and the next state elections would take place in 2029 instead of 2028.
He also accused the opposition of trying to destabilize Telangana by spreading rumors about law and order and financial instability, hindering investments.
